After spending nearly four weeks in Iran in October 2018, I have the following advice. Go to Iran and make up your personal mind. I felt safer there than in some European countries and met probably the most pleasant and welcoming people. These tips might make your journey to Iran just that little less intimidating.
Iran doesn’t look kindly on those whose passports have an Israeli stamp in them. And vice versa. When you’ve got been to Israel it may be worth getting a new passport.
Visiting Iran makes it more sophisticated to get a visa for America within the future. Australians and different nationalities who visit Iran and once were eligible for the American ESTA (Digital System for Journey Authorisation) and need to go to America, must apply for a B1/B2 Visitor Visa which requires attending an interview.
While many nationalities can receive an Iranian Visa on arrival, others (including Individuals, Canadians and British) should get their visas prior to arriving in Iran. This entails filling in a number of varieties and providing a Resume amongst other things. Previous work history may count against getting a visa. Iran requires these nationalities to be accompanied by a certified guide while in Iran.
Australians and another nationalities can receive a visa on arrival. There are two methods to do this:
1. Apply for a letter of invitation.
We did this via our tour company. The letter of invitation arrives a few weeks previous to departure and facilitates things whenever you arrive hotels in iran Iran.
You’ll have to pay for and acquire the visa on arrival and show proof of journey insurance (or purchase insurance there) but with your a call for participation, most of the work has been done.
The present fee for Australians is €a hundred forty five, which is way higher than most other nationalities will pay.
2. Complete the application on arrival.
To take action you want:
A valid passport with no less than 6 months validity
A confirmed return ticket within a 30-day timeframe (the visa is valid for 30 days however may be renewed when in Iran)
A passport photo. Some sites advise that ladies want a photograph wearing a headscarf. In my photo I used to be not wearing a headscarf.
An address for your first evening in Iran and an approximate itinerary.
The visa price which is dependent upon your nationality (at present €one hundred forty five for Australians).
Note: Iranian Visas on arrival are only available at sure international airports in Iran including Tehran and Shiraz.
On arrival in Iran, observe the process below to get the visa on arrival.
Iran requires all guests to hold travel insurance for Iran. You can be required to show proof of travel insurance before getting your visa. In the event you don’t have proof of travel insurance for Iran you can be able to buy it on arrival.
Where and Tips on how to get the Iranian Visa on Arrival in Tehran
On entering the airport, look out for signs to the visa office. Go there earlier than going to immigration and accumulating your baggage.
Show your a call for participation or full the varieties for a visa on arrival
Show your proof of Travel Insurance or buy local insurance
At a different window, pay the visa fee (EU145 for Australians, less for other nationalities)
Go back to the primary window and show proof of fee to obtain your visa
Pass by means of immigration, pick up your luggage and enter Iran.
While travel advisories in Australia and other Western International locations advise a high stage of caution, I’ve never felt safer than after I was in Iran. The people are pleasant and honest. I carried large amounts of cash round (see ‘Money’ beneath) without a second thought.
Had there been mass protests or giant gatherings within the cities I visited once I was there, I most likely would have prevented them just to be on the secure side.
The thing that concerned me most about safety was the site visitors and crossing the road. Iran has over 20 000 road deaths annually and it is not stunning given the number of cars and bikes and the style in which they’re driven. No one takes discover of traffic lights or pedestrian crossings. Travelling between cities, I felt safer within the local bus than in a car or taxi and in Tehran and Shiraz the metro is a good different to taxis.
International Credit Cards are not accepted in Iran and you will need to carry ample cash on your complete journey in both Euros or US Dollars. Each currencies are accepted. The notes needs to be in clear and undamaged.
Occurring a pay as you go tour means less cash to hold around, nonetheless independent travellers will want money to cover daily bills as well as accommodation.
Iranian Foreign money
The official currency in Iran is the Iranian Rial (IRR). Relying on the change rate (recently there have been wild fluctuations), you’ll get tens of thousands of IRR on your US$ or €.
This signifies that shopping for anything from a simple coffee to a large Persian carpet means thinking in tens or hundreds of thousands. And, there may be another problem. In 1932, the Rial replaced the Toman (pronounced ‘toomarn’). One Toman is the equivalent of 10 Rial.
